Ways to Increase Your Home's Value Before Listing

Updated: Oct 16, 2019

If you’re thinking about selling your home, here are some ways to improve its value before hitting the market.

1. Renovate the Kitchen

Let’s be honest, the kitchen is often the centerpiece of the home. It’s the spot for family dinners, random trips to the fridge, and often doubles as a part-time office/homework space. Making improvements to this space is often the best way to improve your home’s value. Getting “with the times” by updating countertops, cabinets, light fixtures, and other features in the kitchen is extremely helpful and while it often be expensive, there are ways to get the job done on a tight budget.

2. Bathroom Updates

Whether we want to admit it or not, we spend a lot of time in the bathroom! A space with a convenient layout, updated amenities (like a double sink), and appealing colors is definitely a game-changer. Make sure you have a plan for how you want the new bathroom to look by coordinating accents and accessories. Bringing this room back to life doesn’t necessarily require a complete overhaul, search for ways to refresh your bathroom on a budget.

3. New Flooring

The old saying goes “you can’t make all of the people happy all of the time”, or something like that. When it comes to flooring choice it’s hardwood floors or ceramic tile for some, carpet for others. The bottom line is this; updated, aesthetically pleasing, and durable (for high traffic areas) flooring will undoubtedly help improve the value of a home. Do some research to find current flooring trends and find an option that works best for your living space.

Bonus: Landscaping

Make sure the grass is cut, weeds are pulled, and flower beds are maintained to improve the curb appeal of the house. This will also help maximize value and attract potential buyers.
